DUST SUPPRESSION ROADS – HYDROGEL

Hydrogel is a concentrated polymer additive that is dispensed straight from the flowbin that it is supplied in or from the on site storage tanks, into the already water filled water truck via the pre-dosage programmed DSR P pump at the water fill point/gooseneck. Hydrogel rapidly mixes with the water in the water truck, producing thicker water. The mixture is then applied to the haul road as per normal watering practise.

What Does The Product Do:

The active polymers work by retaining water. This means that once applied to the road surface, evaporation time significantly increases, keeping the road wetter for longer and with much less applied water. Hydrogel is best suited to secondary roads, ramps, in-pit and/or any roads that are temporary/dynamic and that are not suited tobuilt-in long term product applications.

What Does The Product Achieve:

By keeping the road wet for longer, using less water, the product has he following benefits:

  • Water Savings: Effective dust suppression with approximately 50% less water
  • Diesel Savings and Increased Water Truck Utilisation: Application of the Hydrogel mixture lasts up to two times longer than “water only” applications allowing Water Trucks to be utilised in other areas. This results in diesel savings by reducing the re-wetting of the same area of road as frequently.
  • Increased Distance to Empty by up to 1.5X: Hydrogel allows the Water Truck operator to lower the RPM, outputting less water on to the road. The water output can be reduced to approximately 300ml/m2, significantly increasing the distance to empty while achieving effective dust suppression.
Dosage:

Standard: 40L in 10,000L of water and applied as part of the on site watering schedule

How to Estimate Monthly Usage:

Standard: 10,000L per month for every 100,000m2 of treatable road i.e 10km x 10m – Advised once project information is shared

HYDROGEL – HOW TO USE

Site Setup and Usage Method

  1. The 1,000L flowbin or JoJo Tank housing the Hydrogel product is placed next to the Water Cart fill-point
  2. The skid mounted positive displacement dosage pump (DSR-P) is placed in front of the Hydrogel flowbin/JoJo being used, with its outlet being connected to the pump inlet using a predesigned 2.5m+ pipe.
  3. The pre-designed pipe, is connected to the outlet of the pump and is dosed directly into the water pipe feed, via a 45 degree welded section with connection coupling. Alternatively, a direct feed line to dose Hydrogel directly to the Water Cart is also available.
  4. DSR-P needs to be connected to a power source
  5. The DSR-P has preset dosage options of High, Medium and Low which can be selected by the Water Cart driver on filling. Smart pump options available that will record all dosage loads and quantities with relevant time stamps. Once the full quantity on the Hydrogel product is used, an alert will be sent to connect the DSR-P to the next Flowbin or Refill the JoJo’s.
